My callsign is M1TLK, identifying me uniquely in the world of amateur radio.
I became interested in radio at around the age of 10 when my father introduced me to crystal sets. Shortly after I discovered the plethora of radio receivers, components and other interesting equipment within my fathers garage which soon took refuge in my bedroom to my mother’s horror. Listening to many different radio bands with an old WWII tank receiver and an R1155. Many happy days were spent in my bedroom building various crystal sets and later transistor radios, and add-on extras for my commodore 64. Nursing solder burns to my fingers seemed to be a weekly ocurance in my teens. My Father was the wing radio officer for Herts, Beds and Bucks Air Training Corps, and he spend many hours working on Pye westminsters and Pyephones for the ATC . I helped with designing and building of various antennas for the ATC bands, and still enjoy building antennas today .In 1981 when CB became legal in the UK, I received a York CB for my christmas present from my father, I enjoyed many days making various antennas and trying to work DX on 4 watts. My furthest contact was the Orkney Isles in the UK and Norway. Passing my Class B licence in 2000 I pursued VHF and 6M Dxing for around 7 years before the licencing changed and my licence became a full A class. Since then I have been active on most bands. Recently moving to Buckingham onto a Farm, I now enjoy the benefits of lots of space for antennas and a noise floor of nearly zero. I work most bands when open and enjoy Dxing , WAB, BOTA,SOTA and special events
